Kilwa Masoko is surrounded by water and steeped in centuries of history.  There are many activities available to take advantage of that fact, including:

  • Kilwa Kiswani Ruins Tour (by Dhow- includes guide)
    • Approximately 30 minutes to reach the island
  • Kilwa Kivinje Tour (by SUV- includes guide)
    • Approximately 15 minutes to reach Kilwa Kivinji
  • Songa Mnara Tour (by motor boat- includes guide and soft drinks )
    • Guests are taken by motor boat from Kilwa Ruins Lodge
    • Trip to the island takes approximately one hour
  • Waterways Exploration (by Dhow or motor boat)
    • Bird watching and hippo viewing
    • Approximately 45 minutes to reach the area
